I am excited to begin my fifth year at Rufino Tamayo as assistant principal. I began my career in education as a Teach For America corps member in Las Vegas. I spent my early career years teaching 2nd and 3rd graders. After 5 years in Nevada, I decided to return home to the Chicagoland area to be near family and continued teaching at the intermediate level. I then made the difficult decision to leave the classroom to become a dean of students. That road finally lead to Tamayo where I happily manage the academic programming and instruction, among other duties. I am especially passionate about infusing Social Emotional Learning into everyday instruction. In my spare time, I love to stay active, especially outdoors. You'd be surprised to learn I've backpacked through the Grand Canyon 5 times!
