I joined the Tamayo family in 2015, but my career in education began at the start of this century in the year 2000!
Before beginning my long career in education, I was a journalist for a suburban newspaper and a corporate marketing and public relations editor. After having my three children, I decided that teaching would be the best career for me to pursue with a family.
Prior to coming to Tamayo, I served as a middle school ELA teacher in Naperville for 11 years and as an AP English instructor and instructional coach for a CPS charter high school in Englewood for three years.
Some little known facts about me include:
- Working with the White House Public Relations Team in advance of a presidential visit to my college campus
- Covering a national news story on the third artificial heart receipient
- Winning a national second place award for a breaking news story
- Standing in line for a ride at Six Flags behind the actors of the first Star Wars film in 1977 (I was just a kid at the time!)
Nowadays, when not planning lessons, grading assignments, or attending graduate classes, I like walking my oversized poodle-mix, Ollie, visiting my mother, chatting with my "all grown up" children, and, most of all, holding my sweet baby granddaughter!
