Matthew Katz realized his passion for education after leaving the profession to become a writer. He found that he missed the classroom and his students. “I re-entered the educational realm at age 25 and have never looked back,” he said. After becoming a new teacher mentor and trainer for Chicago Public Schools, Mr. Katz joined Tamayo. “I saw the way these schools were changing lives, and I wanted to be a part of it.” As a competitive runner and band musician himself, Mr. Katz appreciates the value of a well-rounded education. “In addition to top-notch instruction, more than half of our Tamayo staff lead volunteer after-school activities or summer camps,” he stated. “Our students, in turn, develop hunger for learning classroom material while pursuing excellence in activities ranging from classical guitar to chess.” Mr. Katz looks forward to another year of social, emotional and academic engagement at Tamayo.

Matthew Katz se dio cuenta de su pasión por la educación después de dejar la profesión para convertirse en escritor. Descubrió que extrañaba el salón de clases y a sus alumnos. “Regresé al ámbito educativo a los 25 años y nunca miré hacia atrás”, dijo. Después de convertirse en un nuevo maestro mentor y entrenador de las Escuelas Públicas de Chicago, el Sr. Katz se unió a Tamayo. “Vi la forma en que estas escuelas estaban cambiando vidas y quería ser parte de eso”. Como corredor competitivo y músico de banda, el Sr. Katz aprecia el valor de una educación integral. “Además de la instrucción de primer nivel, más de la mitad de nuestro personal de Tamayo dirige actividades voluntarias después de la escuela o campamentos de verano”, afirmó. “Nuestros estudiantes, a su vez, desarrollan hambre por aprender material de clase mientras buscan la excelencia en actividades que van desde la guitarra clásica hasta el ajedrez”. El Sr. Katz espera otro año de compromiso social, emocional y académico en Tamayo.
